May PPOW: Poems That Don't Make Any Sense

Random
Writing poems is easy,
even though some are cheesy.
School is cool;
although there are plenty of rules,
it is still fun.
There are lots of friends
to hang and chill with.
Some of them are Bill’s,
but they’re still a thrill.
Sports are the best;
I am obsessed.
You have to train,
your brain to go insane.
You go hard,
around the yard.
Ball up,
pull up,
drank.
Fly around the field,
not willing to yield.
Under the sun,
you run.
The running back spun
like someone is coming after you with a spray gun.
Baseball
The ball flies across the field,
the umpire holding a back shield.
The pitcher throws the curve;
the batter jumps out of the box without any nerve.
It’s a strike;
now the batters on a hike,
back to the dugout to play another day.
The Poem That Makes No Sense
The boy goes the store
next door from the ocean shore.
Waves come up the beach,
the palm trees just out of reach.
I’m riding on the whip,
driving by the ship.
I get stung by bees,
enjoying the oceans breeze.
The EEZE Poem
Eating cheese,
in the summer breeze.
Ice cream please,
so I can feel the freeze.
Getting hit in the knees,
by dangling keys.
Sea breeze blowing in my face,
giving me an unease.
Now I am done,
this has been fun.
Basketball
Take it to the hoop,
waiting for the alley-oop.
Go hard in the paint.
Fly so high
in the sky.
Be like Mike,
soaring in the air.
Free throw line dunk,
for the win.
Six Rings will always be greater than five.
Kobe’s trailing on his heels,
but never will catch up.
Kobe’s old,
but still very bold.
Dallas Cowboys
The cowboys used to be great,
back in 98’.
With the big three,
that won three Super Bowls.
Now we have no chance without Murray,
our future now is blurry.
Romo is getting tired of going 8-8,
he just wants to be one of the greats.
Striving for the hall,
but without Murray the team is starting to fall.
They will always be my favorite team,
no matter what their dream.

April PPOW: The Runaway

The Runaway
John Doe was always on the run, staying in old rundown shacks along the coast of San Francisco. John was an ex-marine, but ever since he has returned; he has never been the same. He could see the sudden flash of red and blue in the distance, and hear the sirens cry out like a baby in dead silence. He had been running from the cops his whole life, but this time he was in real trouble. It all started that Friday night when John made the biggest mistake of his life…
John woke up in a pool of sweat in his run down hotel room that smelled like rotten fish. The bed sheets were stained yellow from the visitors before him, there were cockroaches under the sink and covering the walls. He looked outside and seen the horizon of southern San Francisco. The sun was just rising over the Golden Gate Bridge. He rushed to pack up all of his clothes and stuffed his suitcase to the top. He slammed the door behind him and started his car. He didn’t notice the car parked behind him and backed right into it.
The neighbor came storming out of his front yard and started screaming in John’s face. John jumped in his car and drove off with his bumper scraping against the pavement. The neighbor screamed and yelled while chasing John’s beaten up car down the street. John was halfway down the interstate, when he seen the familiar flash of red and blue out of his rear view mirror. He pushed the gas pedal all the way to the floor and heard the engine roar. That’s when the school bus in front of him slammed on its brakes. He swerved to the left diving into the median going over 90 miles per hour. He ramped out of the median into oncoming traffic; he felt the impact and thats when everything went black.
John woke up in a small ambulance surrounded by strangers dressed in white gowns. He looked down at his leg and seen bright red bleeding through the white bed sheet surrounding him. He panicked and started kicking and thrashing. The nurse picked up the needle and that’s when John felt a slight pinch in his right arm and began to feel sleepy. He fell asleep thinking about his leg, wondering what he had done.
John woke up this time to the air conditioner in his hospital room that sounded like a swarm of bees. He had a bag pumping fluids in his arm that looked like clear Kool-aid. He instantly lifted up his bedsheet to the see the long, blue, gnarly stitches sticking out of his leg. They ran from his ankle all the way up to the inside of his kneecap. A big, bulky, police officer came into his room and gave him the death stare. He sat in the chair directly across from John.
“You are going to have to come with me.” said the officer.
“Why?” asked John.
“When you were running from me and went into the median, you went into oncoming traffic. A semi then smoked your car which made a motorcycle run into the back of the semi. You have to serve 10 years in jail for running from the authorities.” barked the officer. The cop pulled out his handcuffs and yanked them on John’s wrists. The cop yanked the IV needle out of John’s arms and escorted him to the door. As soon as John put weight on his leg, he collapsed in a heap on the floor. The cop dragged him into the hall and onto the elevator. A lot of people looked at him weird, but everything turned out okay.
Meanwhile John’s plan was working out great, he still felt a sharp pain in his lower leg, but he thought he could run on it. As soon as the cop reached to open the door, John jumped off and sprinted towards the nearest gas station. The cop seen John sprinting for his life, so he got in his car and wildly drove in the direction of the runaway. John was as quick as lightning, sprinting over 20 miles per hour. He used to be a track star in high school shattering Usain Bolt’s record of 19.19 in the 200 meter dash. He jumped over the curb and that’s when he felt the stitches split in his leg and he cried out in pain. He began to see the red blood stain seeping through his hospital gown. John laid in the grass groaning in pain. He tried getting up, but it was no use his leg had split open again and he was beginning to lose blood fast. He could feel himself getting dizzy and lightheaded, but he told himself that he was never going back to jail. He never wanted to see the rusty bars and gray walls enclosing him like a animal in a cage.
The cop was closing in on him from behind John panicked and jumped off the bridge into the crystal clear ocean water. As soon as he submerged into the water, he felt the sudden burn of salt in his leg. He surfaced gasping for air searching for the nearest sandy beach. He seen a stretch of land to his north, and swam as fast as Michael Phelps in the 200 meter race in the Olympics. He choked on water and gasped for air; he could hear the water splashing behind him with bullets. He kept telling himself that he could make it. He felt the edge of the sandbar and was relieved, but when he looked up he seen the swat team pulling up in their camo Hummers.
John jumped up and started sprinting towards the treeline; his marine training had come in handy in this situation; he thought to himself. He could hear the firing of the AR-15’s and M-16’s in the distance. Then all of a sudden he felt a sharp pain in his lower back. He looked down at his stomach and seen the familiar red bloodstain seeping through his white hospital gown. He fell down and everything went black. To be continued………...

My Trip to Mall of America

My Trip to Mall of America
This year my family and I went to Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota. First we woke up at six on a Saturday morning and went to Casey’s. The drive seemed like it took forever, but it was only five hours. We got there around noon and went straight to our hotel. We stayed in a huge hotel called Crowne Plaza. It had a pool, and a hot tub which I really enjoyed. After we checked into our hotel, we drove to Mall of America. We ate lunch at Hard Rock Cafe; they had lots of guitars and drums hanging on the wall. The guitars and drums were signed by famous bands and singers like Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Linkin Park, and many others. I had a hamburger but it wasn’t that great. It had almost every store you could think of, surprisingly it didn’t have a Mcdonalds. They had Skittles, Peeps and Starburst stores. In the center of the mall was Nickelodeon Universe; it had amusement park rides. The scariest ride there was the Spongebob Squarepants Roller Coaster. It sounds kiddish and cheesy, but it was really scary; you go straight up a huge hill and then straight down. It made my stomach drop, when I went down the huge drop off. Then we went to a baseball store outside of the mall, and I bought a new Easton Baseball glove. Then we went back to the hotel and went to bed. The next morning we woke up and ate at IHOP and there pancakes were amazing. I had two pancakes and a omelet; they had 5 different types of syrup: strawberry, butter pecan, salted caramel, blueberry and original. Then we drove back to our hotel and got on a train to Mall of America. The train went super fast through downtown Minneapolis and straight to the mall. Right when I walked in I saw a Chinese family asking this lady if she could take their picture. She said yes then took their picture; she handed him his phone back. Then the Chinese man said “No, this is not good enough! We need to find a photographer!” I thought it was hilarious, but he didn’t think it was too funny. After that, we went straight to the Nike and Foot Locker Store’s. I bought some new shoes and Derek Jeter Jordan socks at foot locker. We ate lunch at Culver’s and then headed to this store called Planet Soccer. It had tons of soccer equipment and balls. I bought new cleats at the store and then we left. Then after we left the soccer store, and we went to Outback Steakhouse. I had fish and chips and it tasted amazing. We left Outback Steakhouse and went straight back to our hotel. We decided to go swimming in the pool and afterwards we went into the hot tub for a little while. Then we went back to our room and went to bed. The next day we woke up and ate breakfast at Mcdonald’s. After we ate at Mcdonald’s, we went back to our hotel to pack all of our stuff up. We packed everything up in our car then went to the Mall for the last time. First, we bought wristbands to ride all of the rides throughout the day. Then we rode the Log ride; it was really fun. You go up this huge hill and then fly down it, splashing through the water. The first time we rode it, we made my sister right in the very front so she got soaked. Then after we got bored of riding the log ride we went straight to the Spongebob Roller Coaster. We had two guys throw up behind us before the ride even started. The first hill was so high it almost touched the ceiling! After you went flying down the first hill, you go in a loop that goes upside down twice. It was the craziest ride they had and it made you feel like you were falling from the sky. The next ride we went on was the Fairly Odd Parents Roller Coaster, it spun in a circle while you were on the roller coaster. It made me really dizzy and it went super fast around hills and stuff. It was the fastest ride they had there. It almost made my sister sick; she was really pale for the rest of the day, but she survived. Then we had to go on the Ferris Wheel because my sister wanted to really bad. I thought it was really boring considering all you do is go in a big circle. Then after we got off, we ate at the food court. I had a hamburger from Johnny Rockets and it was one of the best hamburgers I have ever tasted. My brother and sister had fried rice at Panda Express. After we ate, we had to drive all the way home. On our way back we stopped in Des Moines and ate at a barbeque place called Smokey D’s. It had the best barbeque I have ever tasted. There is trophies all over the walls from all the contests and cookoffs they have one. The food Network had even came there to see how good their food was. They had checks of 100,000 dollars hanging up on the wall that they had one from BBQ Pitmasters. After we stuffed ourselves to the best barbecue ever, we started driving back home again. This vacation was really fun and exciting. Although the drive was really long, the Mall of America was worth it. My favorite part was going on the rides that went up really high then straight down as people screamed. I bought lots of stuff and had a great time on the rides and in the shops. It was one of the best vacations I have ever been on, and it is something that I will never forget for the rest of my life.

The Nightmare

The Nightmare
There once was a gorilla named Jamie that lived in the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. He lived in a small glass dome with many other gorillas and orangutans. Jamie’s favorite snack was bananas and peanut butter. Jamie’s best friend was a zoo keeper by the name of Kevin Wieser. Kevin and Jamie did everything together swing on the swing, run on the treadmill and occasionally eat ice cream. Kevin was also the owner of the Henry Doorly Zoo. His parents had bought it when he was only four years old. He has spent his whole life around animals, and he loved interacting with them and taking care of them. He loved all animals but his favorite was Jamie.
One day Kevin didn’t show up for work so Jamie became very worried and tried to escape from his cage. Some of the other gorillas that lived in the Henry Doorly Zoo became very worried too. Every gorilla started to become very agitated and nervous. Burt, the largest gorilla in the zoo, began slamming his fists against the glass window. All of the sudden the glass on the outside of the dome shattered, and all of the gorillas including Jamie began charging out of the dome. People screamed, and began running out of the zoo. The gorillas searched and searched for Kevin but couldn’t find him. They began searching houses and cars for Kevin but they still couldn’t find him.
Then they saw cop cars chasing them from behind. Burt led the pack through the trees and on rooftops. They kept on running until the city was just a speck along the horizon. They stopped and slept in some tall oak trees along a creek. Burt kept watch for any unusual signs or noises. The next day Kevin heard about the news and went searching for the gorillas. Kevin was very worried that the gorillas would be harmed or might even be killed. He went to every place where Jamie would like to go like Buffalo Wild Wings and Rainforest Cafe. Kevin found no sign of the gorillas; he had a whole search team looking for them, but no one had found them yet.
Three days later Kevin began getting very worried and thought they were long gone. Then out of nowhere his cell phone began to ring. It was Jack the leader of the search team he said they had found footprints leaving the city and into the Black woods. Kevin jumped up, slammed the door open, threw on his shoes, and started his car. He sped down the interstate towards the Black woods. Burt alerted the group of a car coming down the long brown dirt road in the distance. The gorillas slowly watched as Jack and the search team got out of their cars. The gorillas ran as fast as they could through the shallow creek and down into the valley.
Jack and his search team journeyed through the thick green jungle searching for a sign of the group. Two days had passed and they hadn’t seen one footprint or sign. Then one night after the search team had gone to sleep and Jack lay awake staring at the stars. He heard the sound of a freight train chugging through the thick brush. Then he saw Burt staring at him eye to eye.
He awoke all the campers by yelling at them to get up. The campers all jumped up and saw the gorilla and goosebumps began to arise on their necks. Then all of the gorillas had surrounded them and began grunting and pounding their chests warning them that this was their territory. Some of campers had begun panicking, and going in their tents and then everything went black.
Jack woke up with dirt coating his eyes and nose. He got up and looked around there was no sign of anybody just the sight of tents scattering the ground around him. Where has everybody gone? He looked down and saw tarnished clothing and a couple of walkie talkies. He yelled all day but still no sign of any of the campers. He searched through the trees, in the woods, around the creek along the mountains. Then he got a call from Kevin saying that a camper was spotted being dragged by a bunch of gorillas through the meadow. Then Jack told Kevin everything he could remember Kevin was shocked and told Jack to meet him by the meadow.
The campers were being held hostages by the aggressive crazy gorillas. Burt and Jamie were the leaders of the group making sure no one escaped. They were in a cave south of the meadow and under a large oak tree. No one would find them in this strategical hiding spot. The campers were terrified cold and shivering in the pitch black with the gorillas. They hadn’t had food or for over a day now and hadn’t seen Jack.
Kevin and Jack met by the meadow and began a search through the meadow and into the woods. They found some of the campers supplies such as compasses, binoculars, pocket knifes, water containers, car keys, and other essentials. Kevin and Jack became very worried and then Jack found a cave in the forest. He could hear the sounds of breathing and crying in the cave. He yelled at Kevin to come over there and check it out. When Kevin got there Jack was gone he looked into the cave and saw eyes staring right back at him. Then he started running as fast as he could away from the cave but not as fast as Burt. Burt caught him from behind and threw him against a tree that knocked Kevin out.
Kevin woke up from his horrible dream to the annoying sound of his alarm clock. He was already an hour late to work.  He went and took a shower then put on his clothes. Next he got a call from the zoo delivering some shocking news that the gorillas had escaped from their cage.

Winter

Winter
The cold winds blow,
across the snow.
Snowballs fly,
across the barren gray sky.
Kids go sliding downhill,
covered in layers hiding from the winter chill.
The glow of Christmas lights lighting the streets,
sheets of ice layering the slick concrete.
People drinking warm drinks out of mugs,
relatives giving bear hugs.
Stockings hanging stuffed with treats,
children stuffing their mouths with sweets.
Presents spread under the Christmas Tree,
snowflakes engulf the pearl white sea.
Basketball
Players dribble the ball down the court,
playing the tough sport.
They shoot towards red hoops,
players dunk off the alley-oops.
Michael Jordan
He floats through the air,
Driving to the hoop on a tear.
One of the best players to play the game,
surrounded by fortune and fame.
He has six golden rings,
Lebron is one of the kings.
But Michael is the god,
Kobe Bryant is a fraud.
Derek Jeter
Catching the ball in his tan Nike glove,
Yankee fans in love.
Air Jordan gloves holding his louisville slugger bat,
The sun beating off his blue and white yankee hat.
Calvin Johnson
His nickname is Megatron,
he moves gracefully across the field like a swan.
One of the greatest wide receivers ever,
his legacy lives on forever.
Rain
When the clouds start to cry,
rain falls from the sky.
Thunder claps across the hills,
fog pushed away by morning chills.
Lightning strikes the moist ground with a flash,
the clouds and the sun clash.
Fall
Leaves drop from tall trees,
following the swift breeze.
Thanksgiving smells engulf the air,
everyone waiting for dinner sitting in there chair.
Football
Fans cheering at the top of their lungs,
spit flying from their tongues.
Players tackling hard,
across the schoolyard.
Baseball
Pitchers throwing from the windup,
coaches editing their lineup.
Infielders taking ground balls,
umpires blowing calls.
Dominate
Try,
persevere,
own the game,
get better,
prepare,
work hard,
attack,
adjust,
finish,
respect your opponents,
set a goal,
achieve your goals,
go out and get it,
try again,
succeed,
steal,
ball,
dribble,
penetrate,
kick it,
shoot,
swish,
dominate.

Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time, was born on March 24, 1976. Peyton started playing football at the age of three, and is still currently playing at the age of thirty-eight. Peyton was born into a football family. Peyton’s dad Archie played quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. Peyton’s brother Eli currently plays for the New York Giants. Eli has won two Super Bowls for the New York Giants. Peyton is married to Ashley Thompson and has two kids Mosley Thompson Manning and Marshall Williams Manning. Peyton attended high school at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Peyton attended the University of Tennessee and started quarterback as a freshman for the volunteers. In Peyton’s senior year at Tennessee he led them to the national championship against the number two rated Nebraska Cornhuskers and lost 42-17.
In 1998, Peyton got drafted by the Indianapolis Colts and played there for 14 seasons. In 2006, he led the Indianapolis Colts to a Super Bowl victory and the Super Bowl MVP. Peyton Manning has comeback from a near career ending injury, neck surgery. When Peyton was playing the Washington Redskins in 2010, he got sacked and thrown to the ground. He lay there motionless cringing in pain as the medical staff ran on to the field. That’s when one of the greatest comebacks in sports began.
Peyton went through the whole 2011 season without playing a single game the Colts released him on March 7, 2012. Peyton then gave a very emotional speech about how much support the Colt’s organization has given him throughout his career with the Colts. After the Colts released Peyton, they went 1-16 in the 2012 season, giving them the first draft pick for the 2013 draft. The Colts selected the star quarterback from Stanford, Andrew Luck. After his neck surgery, Peyton couldn’t even throw a football ten yards let alone play quarterback in the NFL. Peyton trained and worked during the off-season in 2012. Many said that Peyton would never come back and, even if he did he would never be the same. Then unexpectedly during June Peyton’s agent, Tom Condon, started negotiating with the Denver Broncos.
That summer, the owner of the Denver Broncos, John Elway, was looking for a franchise quarterback. The Broncos traded Tim Tebow to the New York Jets earlier that summer and needed a quarterback desperately. Then John Elway got a call from Tom Condon Peyton Manning’s agent. The Broncos organization was very nervous about signing the recently injured 36-year-old veteran. Next, shocking the whole league, Peyton signed a five year 96 million-dollar deal with the Denver Broncos.
Peyton Manning entered the 2012 NFL season with a team that was overall below average including the offensive line, wide receiver core, and defense. The Broncos started the season off 2-3 with Peyton playing as cold as ice. Then the Broncos went on an eleven game winning streak heading in the 2012 playoffs. The Broncos had home field advantage and a first round bye for the playoffs. Then the red-hot Baltimore Ravens came to Denver. The Ravens stunned the Broncos on a 67-yard Hail Mary to Anquan Boldin to beat the Broncos in double overtime. Peyton and the Broncos were shocked after the excruciating loss.
Then the Broncos got the rematch they wanted with the first game of the 2013 season against the Super Bowl champ Baltimore Ravens. Peyton Manning bounced back against the Ravens throwing seven touchdown passes, tying an NFL record which led to a dominant 49-27 victory. The Broncos ended the season with a 13-3 record heading into the playoffs with the number one seed in the AFC. The Broncos beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC championship. The Broncos were the favorite over the Seattle Seahawks in the 2014 Super Bowl. The experts were predicting this game to be one of the best Super Bowl’s of all-time. The Broncos had the number one offense and the Seahawks had the number one defense in the whole National Football League. The game was in MetLife Stadium Peyton’s brother Eli’s team the New York Giants Stadium. On the first snap of the game the ball went sailing into the back of the end zone for a safety for the Seahawks. After the bad snap, the Seahawks had all the momentum for the rest of the game, routing the Seahawks 43-8.
Searching for revenge, Peyton returned for the 2014 season. Peyton Manning broke a NFL record; surpassing Brett Favre with 509 touchdown passes in his career. So far in the 2014 season, Peyton has led the Broncos to a 7-2 record. The only losses included the New England Patriots and the San Diego Chargers. In my opinion, Peyton Manning is one of, if not the greatest quarterbacks to play the game. He has overcome many obstacles to become the great quarterback that he is today. Peyton is very humble and has a very good work ethic. Peyton Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks on and off the field.
