Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey was born January 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario. His real name is James Eugene Carrey. He is a Canadian, American actor and producer. He has won two golden globe awards. He is also the youngest of four children.
Jim Carrey’s dad was a musician who got a normal job to support his children. When his dad lost his job, everything fell apart. They went from lower middle-class to poor, and then they ended up living in a camper van. Then, they had to move to Scarborough, Ontario. Him and his family worked as janitors and security guards in a Titan Wheels factory. He had to work eight hours after school each day, and his grades were not very good.
At age 15, he did stand-up at a club called Yuk Yuk’s. He wasn’t doing very well, and he was off and on playing at comedy clubs in Toronto. At 16 he dropped out of high school to pursue his dream of becoming a comedian. In 1979, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream. When in Los Angeles, he got a gig at a comedy store. He caught the eye of Rodney Dangerfield who soon singed Jim as an opening act for a season.
Jim Carrey then started auditioning for hit shows like “ Saturday Night Live” and “D.C Cab”. Finally in 1984, he got his first lead role in the show “the Duck Factory. The show only lasted four months, but Jim never gave up.
He was then in two movies that helped with his career. In 1986, he met and married Melissa Womer, who was working as a waitress. In 1987, they had a daughter named Jane Erin Carrey. He was still pursuing his dreams, and got a lot of leading roles in movies. In 1990, his career lead him to a role in the sketch series “In Living Color”.
He was in the show from 1990-1994. He was happy with all of the progress he had made with his career, but it just kept getting better. In 1994, he was given the leading role in, “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”. With this movie he caught the attention of audiences from around the world. The critics were not so kind, nominating him with the worst new star award, but the movie got over $70 million at the box office.
He was in other hit movies like “The Mask” and “Dumb and Dumber.” The movies grossed about $120 to $127 million. That established Jim as a star with those two movies. 1995, he was still very popular and making a lot of movies. But, in the same year he and Mellissa Wormer divorced.
In the making of “Dumb and Dumber,” he met the co-star Lauren Holly. They ended up marrying, but the marriage only lasted less than a year. In 1996, Jim pocketed $20 million for his next movie called, “The Cable Guy”. Surprisingly, it was his first disappointment seeing only mediocre reviews at the box office. He was out of the spotlight for the rest of the year living off the money from his recent movies.
Jim came back to the spotlight in 1997, with the movie “Liar Liar”. The movie got over $180 million and great reviews. In 1998, he showed a new side of his acting with starring in the movie, “The Truman Show”. The movie was about a man whose life is actually a real life television show. It caught the attention of many new audiences.
The movie won several Oscars, and Jim Carrey won a Golden Globe award for his performance. He was later in another Golden Globe winning movie called, “The Man On The Moon”. He was out of the spotlight for a few years living off all of the money he had made with his hit movies. In the time he was taking care of his daughter and spending time with his family.
He returned to comedy in 2000, making the movie, “Me, Myself and Irene”. The movie failed to win over critics, but the audience loved it. During that time he had a short-lived romance with Renee Zellweger, which ended in December of 2000. The same year he appeared in the successful children’s movie, “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.” The movie earned over $260 million ranking it at the highest grossing film of that year.
A year later in 2001, Jim was in a poor-performing drama called “The Majestic.” But he had a comeback in 2003, with the movie “Bruce Almighty”. The film made over $200 million in the box office. In 2004, he was in a drama/romance called, “The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. The movie was written by Charlie Kuffman, and directed by Michael Gondry. The movie won an Oscar for good performance.
In 2005, he was still doing drama movies, but only made about $35 million for the movies. In the same year there were rumors of his death, but it was just a hoax on Facebook that someone had made up. In December, he began dating actress and model Jenney McCarthy, but they separated in 2010. The Facebook hoax came again in November. Jim’s latest movies were “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” in 2013.
Jim says that he still wants to keep making more movies. He says that he has loved to make people laugh ever since he was a kid. His next movie comes out November 14, 2014, which is Dumb and Dumber to. He says that he is excited about the new movie and can’t wait for people to see it. Jim says that he likes working with the same people again. He says, even though the two movies are 20 years apart, it still feels like yesterday when they made the first movie, and that he is glad he has made it this far.
